Frequently Asked Questions
Corian® |
|
Q: | What is Corian? |
A: | Manufactured by DuPont, Corian is a non-porous acrylic polymer material that is made to look like natural stone or granite. |
Q: | Is Corian stain-resistant? |
A: | Yes, because Corian is not porous, stains can’t penetrate the surface, so it’s easy to clean and maintain. |
Q: | Is Corian heat-resistant? |
A: | Although Corian remains stable and undamaged in temperatures up to 212° Fahrenheit, placing a hot pan directly on Corian is not recommended. High heat or flame will damage the surface. Always place hot pans directly from the stove onto a trivet or hot pad. |
Q: | How do I clean Corian? |
A: | For day-to-day care, soapy water or an ammonia-based cleaner is all that is necessary to clean Corian countertops. |
Zodiaq® |
|
Q: | What is Zodiaq? |
A: | Zodiaq is a synthetic quartz surface manufactured by DuPont. It is smooth and non-porous. |
Q: | Is Zodiaq heat-resistant? |
A: | Zodiaq remains stable and undamaged in temperatures up to 212° Fahrenheit; however, placing a hot pan directly on Zodiaq is not recommended. High heat or flame will damage the surface. Use a trivet or hot pad. |
Q: | How do I clean Zodiaq? |
A: | For routine care, the use of soapy water is all that is necessary to clean the surface. To maintain a high-gloss shine, an ammonia-based cleaner, such as a glass cleaner, can be used. |
Cambria® |
|
Q: | What is Cambria? |
A: | Cambria is a natural quartz surface product that can be used for a variety of applications, including countertops and vanities. It has the natural look and feel of granite. It is non-porous and is stain-resistant. Cambria is stronger than granite and does not need to be glazed or polished like granite. |
Q: | Is Cambria heat-resistant? |
A: | Although Cambria is natural stone, placing hot pans or pots directly on the surface is not recommended, as some discoloration can occur from excessive heat. |
Q: | How do I clean Cambria? |
A: | Simply wipe it with warm water or use a mild soap if desired. |
Staron® |
|
Q: | What is Staron? |
A: | Staron is a countertop surface manufactured by Samsung. It is made from a synthetic polymer and has a look and feel like smooth granite. |
Q: | Is Staron heat-resistant? |
A: | Staron work tops are heat-resistant up to 212° Fahrenheit. But, flame and high heat can damage the surface. When placing hot pots on a Staron surface, always use a trivet. |
Q: | How do I clean Staron? |
A: | Use soap and water to wipe the surface clean. An ammonia-based cleaner like glass cleaner is also a good way to give the surface a great shine. |
Meganite® |
|
Q: | What is Meganite? |
A: | Meganite is a non-porous synthetic acrylic polymer surface material that is used for countertop applications and is made to look and feel like stone or granite. |
Q: | Is Meganite heat-resistant? |
A: | As with other solid surface materials, Meganite should be protected from hot pans directly from the stove or oven by the use of hot pads or trivets equipped with rubber-tipped feet. |
Q: | How do I clean Meganite? |
A: | For routine cleaning, warm, soapy water is recommended to clean the surface. To disinfect the surface, wipe with equal parts bleach and water. Do not use highly-abrasive cleaners or solvent-based cleaning products, as these can damage the surface. |
Granite |
|
Q: | What is Granite? |
A: | Granite is a natural stone which is extremely durable as a countertop surface. No two slabs of granite are alike, which gives each application a unique and personal touch. |
Q: | Is Granite stain-resistant? |
A: | As a natural stone, granite does have some porosity, even when polished to a high gloss. Therefore, it is best to have granite professionally sealed. Penetrating sealer is used to protect and help prevent staining. |
Q: | Is Granite heat-resistant? |
A: | Yes, granite is not harmed by hot pans and pots. However, it is always best to place a trivet or potholder on the granite countertop first before placing a hot pot or pan that has been taken directly off the burner onto the granite surface, as the sealer can cause slight discoloration due to excessive direct heat. |
Q: | How do I clean Granite? |
A: | Use warm water and a sponge for quick clean-ups, or all-purpose cleaner that contains no abrasives. Cleaners made specifically for natural stone countertops may also be used. |
VirginiaMarble |
|

Q: | How do I clean VirginiaMarble? |
A: | Cleaners containing even mild abrasives will dull the finish with repeated use; therefore, using a soft sponge or cloth and a non-abrasive foam cleaner is recommended. |
